Athletes wield an amazing amount of power and influence in today's world. It seems that the money and power granted to athletes continues to grow exponentially, through the media, social media, team sports, etc. It is completely up to each athlete to decide what he/she wants to do with that power, and whether they decide to provide a positive or a negative influence for their fans.
A Philadelphia Eagles player, Anthony Harris, set a great example of an athlete's positive influence by helping a Texas girl. Audrey Soape is 11 years old, and in the sad past year, she lost both her father and her grandfather. With the school Daddy-Daughter Dance looming, Audrey was devastated to have no male in her life to take her. Audrey's mother reached out to Audrey's favorite player, Anthony Harris, through social media. Recognizing her need, Anthony agreed to take Audrey to the dance. Not only did Mr. Harris fly in to escort Audrey to the dance, he also insisted on paying for her dress, hair, and make up. because he wanted to make her "feel like a princess." He gave her a beautiful night to remember.
I really like reading stories about people who help others in their time of need. I also admire athletes who set a good example for others. This young girl is hurting after the loss of two important and close family members, and Anthony Harris stepped up to help in a big way. His unselfish actions with helping Audrey show who he really is as a person. I hope other athletes will take note.

I LOVE writing. And I love writing children's books- my newest passion. Although it will be a ton of work, I am looking forward to selling my books. Since I was a secondary teacher, I know that I have much to learn about elementary students, and I will have to follow my own advice and be my genuine self. However, I also know that I am passionate about helping kids who have to wear glasses, and that GRADY GETS GLASSES sends a positive message. I am willing to work hard and do all the things that also made me a successful teacher for 37
Teacher friends- let me know if you want me to read GRADY GETS GLASSES at your school. I am willing to come in to discuss the creative writing process, why writing is important, and personal fulfillment through writing, along with reading my book. I would appreciate the exposure, and I would make signed copies available for purchase in your classrooms following the reading.
